Aalborg Open 2026
Aalborg Backgammonklub was founded in 2022 and succesfully hosted their first national tournament in 2024 with 32 players from all over Denmark! Now the time has come to show the whole backgammon world why Aalborg, the Paris of the North, should be on every player's tournament calendar!
Tournament Director, Staff & Tournament Commitee
The Tournament Director for Aalborg Open 2026 will be Bertram Seiferheld.
Bertram has been TD for Nordic Open 2025, The Danish Championship 2024 & 2025. Futhermore he has been part of the tournament staff at BGWC 2025, Merit Open Cyprus 2025, 9th Gibraltar Backgammon Championship, Texas Backgammon Championship, 8th Merit Open Montenegro Grand Prix, the 4th Greek Grand Prix and more.

What Aalborg has to offer
Aalborg has made it their mission to become the cultural capital of Europe in 2032. After a devastating backgammon loss you only have to walk out of the hotel to be in the middle of Denmarks 4th largest city. Known for its rich history and important cultural impact, Aalborg boasts plenty of theaters, concerts, iconic buildings, The Cimbrer Bull and a rich student life with plenty of bars for people of all ages and ability to party throughout the night.
Aalborg also has a plethora of restaurants, including Alimentum which has received one Michelin Star and a Green Michelin Star and Bach & Nurup which is recommended by the Michelin Guide.
If you are interested in art, Aalborg has Kunsten, a museum for Modern Art and Aalborg is known for street art, which can be seen both as huge murals painted on the sides of buildings throughout the city and smaller art pieces throughout the city.
Grab a beer and stroll through Aalborg and you will be sure to find something to enjoy (even if it is just another beer ;-))
Saturday Evening Dinner
We will host a dinner at the hotel Saturday evening for everyone at the tournament. The price is 200 DKK (approx 25 €), drinks are bought seperatly, and only a very limited number of tickets will be available after the 27th of September, so make sure to mention that you would like to join when you register!
Location & How to get there
The tournament takes place at Helnan Phønix Hotel at Vesterbro 77, 9000 Aalborg, Denmark.
From Aalborg Airport you can easily take the bus 15 minutes to Vesterbro and then take a short walk to the hotel.
Arriving by train or Flixbus to Aalborg Station it is a 10 minute walk to the hotel.
Arriving by car you can drive straight to the hotel and park at their parking lot right behind the hotel, there is a parking fee of approx. 100 kr. per day through the app EasyPark. (It is possible to find free parking in Aalborg, but not in the center, where the hotel is located). The hotel does not guarantee a parking space.
Hotel Rates
For a single room incl. breakfast the rate is 895 DKK (approx 120 €) per night.
For a double room incl. breakfast the rate is 995 DKK (approx 135 €) per night.
Food & Drinks
The hotel will be selling sandwiches for lunch saturday and sunday and it will be possible to buy a small selection of beers and cocktails in the lobby throughout the day.
The central placement of the hotel makes it very easy to drink and dine in all the wine bars, bars and restaurants that Aalborg has to offer. Ask us for recommendations!
